Before I start - I am not vouching for the validity of this content or the potential for this prize to be actually delivered.

GNET.COM, powered by Google, is shaking up the Internet by launching a $100 Million prize giveaway at http://www.Gnet.com/ .

"The prize gets people’s attention and people talking," says Masud Osman, Chief Executive Officer of GNET.COM Corporation. "Along with a great Internet home page, the public gets a chance to win $100 Million." In the near future, GNET.COM sponsors will have a vehicle to promote their products to a smart, global audience.

Definitely attention drawing.  Their press release announced that the giveaway would be:

The Giveaway

To win prizes, visitors register once using only their email address at the web address http://www.Gnet.com/ . Each time they return to GNET.COM, they automatically accumulate GNET.COM Points which serve as virtual raffle tickets towards the $100 Million prize drawing. GNET.COM Members can watch their GNET.COM Points accumulate on a rolling ticker. GNET.COM can also be used as an Internet Super Portal without registering, but GNET.COM Points won’t accumulate for the $100 Million prize drawing.

gnetpoints

I signed up for an account and current have 14732 points - WooHoo!  I’m surely going to win now. I have to come back to this site every day.    What’s the catch?

If I/you win out of all of the points/entries you still haven’t won, yet.  You still have to win.  From the Official Rules Page:

The potential Grand Prize winner will be determined by a random drawing from all eligible entries received to be held at GNET.COM Corporation on October 10, 2010. The winner will be notified by mail, e-mail, or telephone. Then the contestant’s full birthday (month, day, and year) must match the pre-selected birthday which will be sealed in tamper proof envelope(s) ahead of time. If a complete birthday match (month, day, and year) occurs then the contestant will be able to select one of the following payout options without interest:

A) $100,000,000.00 at $100,000.00 for 50 years and a final payment of $95,000,000.00.
B) $40,000,000.00 at $300,000.00 for 40 years and a final payment of $28,000,000.00.
C) $25,000,000.00 at $500,000.00 for 50 years.
D) $15,000,000.00 at $750,000.00 for 20 years.
E) $10,000,000.00 as a lump sum cash payment.

Interesting twist.  This does increase the believability of the contest, not the validity of the contest but the believability.  They may have purchased some form of insurance regarding that draw, I have sent an email to them regarding this and will update this post when I have more information.  If you are like me and hate to miss an possible opportunity for free stuff with no risk, visit the site, enter your email, see that you have some points, then decide if the site is useful under its’ own merit, without the contest, and for me personally AfterVote is a much better alternative to Google.
